First Stop: Magnificent Mile

CHICAGO DOWNTOWN MARRIOTT MAGNIFICENT MILE

Nestled in the heart of Chicago’s iconic Mag Mile, Chicago Downtown Marriott Magnificent Mile neighbors some of the city’s most noteworthy shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment. Packed with more than 450 retailers, including flagship experiences, major department stores, international designers, and prominent boutiques, this central spot makes for an ideal landing pad for all types of travelers. Sample the city’s wide variety of cuisines and experiential dining through any of the 170 restaurants and 138 bars within an 8-block radius of the property. After tucking into a hearty slice (or three) of Chi-town’s famed deep-dish pizza, continue taking in the culture with a short post-dinner stroll to The Art Institute of Chicago or Cloud Gate, more commonly referred to as “The Bean.”

THE GREAT UPDATE

The hotel received a makeover in 2019 with updates to the Great Room lobby and its brand new, contemporary libations lounge, Reviver Bar, decorated with coffered ceilings, glass globe pendant light fixtures, and glossy white marble flooring. The Club Lounge is currently undergoing its own set of renovations, set to be complete at the end of June 2022.

Next Stop: Millennium Park

THE CHICAGO ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION HOTEL

Once an elite men’s club, the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel structure dates back to 1893 and remains an architectural landmark to this day. It was converted into a boutique hotel and urban playground in 2015, providing guests with an artfully restored stay housing a handful of the city’s most well-known bars and restaurants. Old-world design features and authentic elements are abundant throughout the property. Even the elevators are lined with old squash court flooring from Stagg Court, the Association’s original basketball court and gymnasium where guests are welcome to shoot hoops, partake in themed roller skate nights, and use for weddings, meetings, and events.

Contemporary luxury enriched with historic flair is one way to describe what lies behind and outside the walls of The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. Locals and guests make the trek to the 13th floor to visit Cindy’s, a celebrated rooftop restaurant and bar complete with vaulted glass ceilings and a steel rooftop with some of the city’s best views. The open-air terrace boasts expansive panoramic vistas of Millennium Park, Lake Michigan, and beyond. There’s even an original Andy Warhol painting of Cindy herself on display here! Guests seeking a more intimate evening may want to pull up a seat at the hotel’s authentic Prohibition-era speakeasy, Milk Room, but act fast because there are only eight seats in this hidden microbar, fully stocked with rare and vintage spirits. Friends and coworkers will be drawn to The Game Room, the hotel’s original billiards room redefined as an adult playground, supplied with classic games and an impressive bar.
